Smarter Britain is a pioneering UK initiative with a bold mission: to support 1,000 new businesses in 1,000 days. Focused on breaking down barriers to entrepreneurship, it offers no-jargon, no-paywall access to expert guidance, mentorship, and early-stage funding. Smarter Britain partnered with Bitcube to bring this vision to life through a comprehensive, easy-to-use web platform, designed to help new entrepreneurs turn ideas into viable businesses through a guided journey, practical tools, and real-world support.
The Challenge
Before Smarter Britain launched, aspiring entrepreneurs across the UK faced major barriers. Startup guidance was often too technical, outdated, or scattered. First-time founders struggled to access meaningful mentorship or early-stage investors. For many, especially informal traders and micro-businesses, mainstream support was inaccessible, and paywalls made most platforms out of reach.
Our Solution
To bring Smarter Britain's vision to life, our UX/UI team led research and full-platform design focused on first-time founders and underserved business communities. We built the platform using NextJS, Prismic, and Prisma/PostgreSQL, delivering a fast, flexible solution. It guides users through a self-paced startup journey, supported by a resource hub with templates, contracts, HR tools, and guides. We also built a curated marketplace connecting entrepreneurs with service providers with smart rate negotiation features, and tools for event promotion and announcements. A freemium model keeps the platform accessible while supporting long-term growth. Everything was designed for scale, laying the foundation to support thousands of UK entrepreneurs.
